My Mum had a Bessie Smith 45 disc in her collection of predominately classical records.
I remember putting this on and hearing Bessie sing the blues like no one else can with Eddie Lang doing something incredible on the guitar. This was very different to Segovia and John Williams. Mum also had some Fats Waller & Django Reinhardt records. These musical sounds were transformative.

The Beatles were a huge phenomenon during my childhood, but by the mid 70’s my ears were tuning in to Frank Zappa, The Grateful Dead and a bunch of Americana Blues recordings.
A lot of this stuff was heard either on LP vinyl or cassette.

I was playing in bands and we were mixing up the genres. Blues, Western Swing, Rock & Roll and a bunch of original tunes.

On this recording I have chosen some favourites that I’ve been playing for a number of years. Plus 3 old and 2 new originals.

I’ve been playing jazz violin for many years now, but have always kept my love of the guitar. When Andrew Richardson suggested we do some recording with Buzz & Rick, I leapt at the offer.

Andrew gave Glenn Hannah a call & I rang Ray Beadle. I knew of Glenn’s work in the country scene. Man oh man, he is a great intuitive player. He bought some magic to the tracks he played on. Ray and I go way back ( 25 years ). His Dad used to bring him to my gig at The Excelsior Hotel in Surrey Hills back in the 90’s. He was tearing it up then and he’s tearing it up now.

I knew Buzz by reputation. We recorded at his studio with David Nicholas engineering. Holy Shit. Buzz has such a steady beat and creative ideas.

Rick has been back in Australia a couple of years after touring the world with Joe Bonamassa and playing with various other luminaries. wow he has some wonderful input on these recordings.

Andrew put down some solid bass lines. He and Buzz dug in to give us a solid pocket of groove.

Everybody added suggestions which were leapt upon with vigour. Dave made everything so easy. Maestro of the mixing panel.

In two days we were able to put down 10 tracks. A couple of over dubs at Andrew’s studio in the city with Phil Snow at the desk.
